The Earth moved for residents and staff at Pembroke House

There was an audible sigh of relief when the 2.25 tonne granite globe and its base were safely craned into position at Pembroke House. The globe was made in India and shipped in before Christmas.

It was purchased using a legacy left to the Home by a grateful former resident. Jo Trembeth, the Home Manager decided to spend the money on something unique and also very relevant to Pembroke House. Many of the residents have travelled worldwide during their careers in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines.

The globe is also a water feature in that once complete, it will be buoyed up by water pressure and slowly rotate encouraging reflection, sometimes on a lifetime of service protecting the UK’s interests worldwide.

The Pembroke House maintenance team spearheaded by Dan and Gary have made so much of the project possible with the final touches being orchestrated by “Mighty Moe” from “Madstone Ltd.” A company that specialises in all works connected with natural stone.

We are looking forward to the final chapter when the globe is “doing what it says on the tin!”
